In 2010 a survey amongst Small Businesses was conducted on the benefits of having businesses plans, the results were quite clear:

2,877 companies completed the survey. Of those, only 995 (35%) had a completed plan.

36% of them secured a loan

36% of them secured investment capital

64% of them had grown their business

1,556 of the 2,877 had not completed their plan.

18% of them secured a loan

18% of them secured investment capital

43% of them had grown their business

The results demonstrate that having a business plan doubles your chances of getting a loan or external investment and increases your chances by 50% of growing your business.
